Endo microscope, as the name suggests, is a dental microscopic viewing device that enables us as your dentist to visualise the dental structures better by magnifying them. Until now, dentists had to heavily rely on their tactile perceptions and limited visibility to perform endodontic and dental surgical procedures. Due to the limited access and visibility of the dental surgical field, a growing need for a device that allowed dental practitioners a better and magnified view of the procedure area was apparent. The minute anatomy of the tooth, gums and mouth sometimes made the dental practitioners operate with a blind view, just relying on their tactile perceptions and knowledge of the oral anatomy.
They work in dark, confined spaces that are difficult to access. This created many challenges for dentists worldwide, especially while doing restorative dental work or root canal procedures. The root canals of a tooth are almost invisible to the naked eye; their compact nature makes it challenging to locate them. This meant some root canals would be hidden and never come to the notice of the dental practitioner; this contributed to treatment failure. No matter what they would do, it was almost impossible to see the tiny structures of the tooth with a naked eye.
Owing to these practical problems, endo microscopes were introduced in the 1980s, which changed the endodontic world and how treatments were being done.
