Although dental implants offer an excellent long-term solution for replacing missing teeth, problems can sometimes occur years after the implant has been placed. If you cannot reach your implantologist but experience any of the following conditions:

Gum infection around dental implants

Sadly, replacing a missing tooth with a dental implant doesn’t make gum infections any less likely. Despite the ceramic crown’s less likeability to collect plaque due to its smoother surface, bacteria can still enter between the tooth and the gum. As this bacteria can hardly be removed with brushing your teeth at home, an infection can happen, causing pain, dental abscess, or other issues.

If you can sense a foul smell from around the dental implant or notice that your gums are bleeding, book an appointment as soon as possible. In some cases, a simple professional cleaning from a dental hygienist will be sufficient to eradicate the infection. If more complex treatment is required, our oral surgeon and implantologist will advise you on your options so you can take an informed decision and treat the condition as soon as possible.
