What are dental implants?

Titanium is biocompatible, which means that the implants can integrate into the actual bone tissue. This provides stability for the new tooth in line with that of a healthy, natural tooth.
Once an implant has integrated into the jaw bone, a restoration is attached and the new tooth will look exactly like the other, natural teeth. Implants can be attached to dental bridges, dentures or crowns, making them a viable option for almost all patients with missing teeth, whether they are missing a single tooth or a full arch.

What does implant treatment involve?
After the consultation and planning stages, the implants are fitted. This procedure is usually carried out under local anaesthetic and involves making a small incision in the gum tissue and lifting the gum flap to reach the bone. A small socket is drilled into the bone and the implant is fixed into this opening. The gum flap is then closed and left to heal. Once the integration process is complete, the new restoration is attached to the head of the implant and you can start enjoying life with your new teeth. Usually, treatment takes between three and nine months.
